Spanish and Culture in Tenerife,
The Canary Islands
• Tenerife is famous for its eternal spring climate and year-round sunshine.
• The island is a small continent and the climate, the landscape and even the culture and customs vary from one part of the island to the other. This is due to the microclimate in Tenerife. There are lovely towns, mountains and beaches to explore and enjoy.
• There are direct flights to Tenerife with competitive fares from many different airports.
• The island has an enviable infrastructure and services– beaches, theme parks, restaurants, cinemas, theatres, museums, etc. It is easy to understand why 5 million tourists visit Tenerife each year.
Visitors can experience both Spanish and Latin American culture here -nowhere else in Spain offers the same latin dancing! The Canary Islands are the bridge between Europe and South America.
• Activities for even the most demanding visitors. Most visitors head for the beach when they visit Tenerife but even nature lovers can find something to keep them occupied. The Teide in Tenerife is the highest mountain in Spain and it has one of the highest peaks in Europe. Tenerife has some splendid woods and amazing valleys – it is full of true natural beauty.
The town
• An oasis. Although the island thrives on tourism, Santa Cruz is not a touristy town and more than 99% of the inhabitants and people passing through are natives or Spanish speakers.
Most of the tourist services and hotels are to be found to the north and to the south of the island. Santa Cruz has 250,000 inhabitants and is like any other European city of its size.
It has many interesting museums, for example the Science and Cosmos Museum. It is a culturally rich city and its location by the sea adds to its appeal. Santa Cruz has its own beach (‘Las Teresitas’ beach )which is in the San Andrés neighbourhood.
